Newborn Favorites

As a mom, you have moments of thankfulness when a product just really does it's job. I've had so many times when I've gone to use a product and I'm just like, "Ugh, I wish this [insert crappy product name] did this or that. And that is not entirely true. Some products are great quality and just don't work for certain babies. Everyone is different. However, I'm hoping this blog post will help you out of some of those situations anyhow. It's always better to learn from other people's experiences. :) Below are some of the products (Dad Approved) that we have loved in the first two months with our little girl.

  1. The baby swing. We decided to splurge on this item. Keep in mind we wanted to take the minimalist approach with our baby. We didn't want toys all over the place or more items than we really needed. Well, this thing is a life saver, let me tell you. She loves that swing. She likes it even more now at 8 weeks than she did at two (Also, she weighs a few more pounds so thankfully, it doesn't swing as fast.). You can take a look at the one we purchased here.
  2. The Boppy pillow. I'll be completely honest with you. I didn't even want to put this on our registry. I was like, "A pillow? Really?" But if you are breastfeeding, this will save your back and arms- especially when baby is teeny tiny. I use this every time. And she loves it. Now that she is a bit bigger we also sit her in it. She can't hold her head up yet, but she kind of just reclines in it. It's slightly amusing. You can use it for tummy time around 4 months, and they can actually sit with their back against it at around 6 months.
  3. A baby sleeper sling. We didn't have this item until she was about 3-4 weeks old. This item also could be used in place of a swing, as a more cost-effective tool. We, fortunately, were gifted ours. Our little one loves sitting and sleeping in this. You can rock them in it which is great too. We slide her into the kitchen in this thing, and we keep her in the living room with us in this. My husband feeds her in it because... well he's a guy. And he doesn't feel comfortable with the "cradle hold." So this is perfect. :) This is similar to what we have- except ours does not have a vibration option. Cool!
  4. Swaddle blankets. Now hear me out. There are a million different kinds of swaddle blankets out there. Everyone will have their preference- or their baby will make their preference for them. Our little girl was 7 pounds 14 ounces when she was born, but she was very petite. Newborn clothes didn't fit her for about two weeks... so ALL we did was swaddle her with just a diaper on and slap a hat on her. The flannel-like receiving blankets did not have enough 'give.' Some of them were too small or not the right shape. My aunt had gifted us stretchy swaddle blankets by the brand Carters and OH MY GOSH. Our baby loved them because she could still move while swaddled... but she stayed in generally the same position. You can get them nice and tight without worrying that you are hurting them (C'mon... every new mom worries about this!). So these are what we used and still use! (Now that she is bigger, we also use the Aden and Anaise linen swaddle blankets, especially when it is warmer out, but the Carters swaddle blankets are still my favorite).
  5. Zip-Up Footy Pajamas. In the middle of the night, the zippers on these things are life savers. She had three of these Fleece beauties, and they were well loved. Our parents bought newborn size ones for us and they got a lot of miles in their short lifespan (She outgrew them around 5-6 weeks). Target has some cute ones, and they are great quality!
These are my top five favorite items that have come in SO handy for us. I could list a million other things, but these are what I thought would be helpful to YOU. What have your favorite items been for your little kiddos? I'd love to know!
